Dear Borough President,

I support the DUMBO Neighborhood Association, the Fulton Ferry Landing Association, the Brooklyn Heights Association and the Vinegar Hill Association in their opposition to the Dock Street project. I also believe that the DNA's Comprehensive Rezoning Plan should be adopted. Here are my concerns:

1. A National Historic Landmark and internationally beloved icon *must* be protected from large structures that will dwarf its majesty, destroy its historical context, and ruin the experiences of so many people who enjoy the bridge. No one would ever consider such a project next to other internationally know landmarks like the Washington monument or the Eiffel Tower.

2. I fear the proposed Dock Street rezoning could really be the "tip of the iceberg," opening the door to significantly taller development in DUMBO. I think it is important to preserve the historic areas of Brooklyn and believe that large, out of context buildings will destroy the fabric of the area and diminish the uniqueness of Brooklyn as a whole.

3. Families are growing and the need for a school in the area is important to many of us. However, this does not justify putting an 18-story building next to the Brooklyn Bridge. This is a false choice, and there are other locations better suited to a school. The City and specifically the Department of Education and the School Construction Authority should work more closely with the various district communities to identify more suitable locations.
